January 2004

I’ve been a fan of “folk ,” whatever the hell that is, for quite a few years now. And despite my infatuation of all things acoustic, I still can’t “connect” with the phenomenon that has become “folk .” And from what I see from the yearly folk festival I attend here in sunny South Florida, most of the rest of the world can’t either.

I guess I’m lucky to live in a place that actually does promote “folk ,” whatever that is. We have a very active “folk community” in the three southern counties that make up South Florida. On Sunday afternoon there is a folk music show on the local public radio station. And to top it all off once a year there is the South Florida Folk Festival, a gathering of people who love “folk ,” whatever that is.

Eat At Moe’s.

by johnford on January 19, 2004

moesCompletely by accident I stumbled into a new burrito joint over the weekend. Moe’s is obviously a chain, but it ain’t bad. What did I find so damn impressive? Two things really. 1- You walk down the burrito assembly line and tell the folks what you want on your burrito. What a concept! Why the hell didn’t anybody think of this years ago. Well, obviously Moe did. P11801312- I can get a tofu burrito! I was impressed with the fact that I could get fresh jalapeños and tons of cheese on the burrito, but the shredded chicken that had the consistency of cat didn’t do much for me. So on my second visit, I opted for tofu. And damn good it was. Moe’s in Fort Lauderdale is on the corner of Prospect and Commercial. Right on Commercial past Executive Airport, on the south side of the street. Check it out. You might like it. The Moe’s web site is here.
