I just love this song from the latest Sam Phillips CD, “A Boot and a Shoe.” It’s become for me one of those songs you get hooked into. The simple production, strings, lovely-floating-haunting melody and thoughtful lyrics work so well. It reminds me a bit of something I might have written (lyrically) before the song nazi’s polluted my brain. I think I may have to actually break down and learn this one. As difficult as it is for me to learn someone else’s songs, I’m gonna give this one a whirl and see if I can play it without butchering in too much.
Sam Phillips - Reflecting Light
Now that I’ve worn out, I’ve worn out the world
I’m on my knees in facination
Looking through the night
And the moon’s never seen me before
But I’m reflecting light
I rode the pain down, got off and looked up
Looked into your eyes
The loss opened windows, all around
My dark heart lit up the skies
Now that I’ve worn out, I’ve worn out the world
I’m on my knees in facination
Looking through the night
And the moon’s never seen me before
But I’m reflecting light
(break)
Give up the ground, under your feet
Hold on to nothing for good
Turn and run at the mean dogs chasing you
Stand alone and missunderstood
Now that I’ve worn out, I’ve worn out the world
I’m on my knees in facination
Looking through the night
And the moon’s never seen me before
But I’m reflecting light

I adore this waltz and have tried to learn the chords on the guitar to no avail. I’m not sure what your instrument is, but if you learn the notes for either Piano, Vocal or Guitar, I’d love you forever if you’d share them with me.

I googled myself here, too. I can’t seem to download it anywhere, though. Got any ideas?

Hi. I am from Brazil. I googled the song and found your blog.
This song is just beautiful… I love Sam Phillips.
“How to dream” and “Love is everywhere I go” are wonderful too.
Thanks a lot for the lyric!

Like you, I am hooked with this song. I wish there was a MIDI file to put it in my website. I swear I’ve been listening to it all day, humming it too. The lyrics are simple and yet so beautiful!

I too, like many of you,am a devout GG fan. However, I am also a music fan and a pure sucker for crazy beautiful love songs. All of Sam Phillip’s lyrics are beautiful but “Reflecting Light” just has its way of standing out.Music like Sam Phillip’s is what I think sometimes keeps the world grounded even with such optimism and sometimes negativity. She is a pure genius.
